The WTEFL provided much more than just an accreditation organization. It provided a rich information resource to help people make the best decision possible.

Anyone looking at TEFL providers needs one thing more than anything – reliable information. Unfortunately, despite everything the internet has to offer that can be in short supply. There are plenty of providers out there, but not all of them are up-front and honest about what they offer.

Making a decision

Every year tens of thousands of people find work teaching English as a foreign language. For some it’s a part of overseas travel, finding a far-flung country in need of English teachers. For others, it’s a new source of income. The pandemic saw a rise in home learning. The ability to teach English remotely is a nice way to earn a bit of extra money from the comfort of their own home. They can even take courses online without the need to go to a facility.

Depending on the way you want to teach English as a language you may want to learn differently. Some courses are extremely comprehensive offering between 100 and 200 hours of training.

Courses can cover all sorts of things. They can provide an introduction to the TEFL sector, help you understand how to teach a class, organize lessons and break down the components of the English language. Even for native speakers understanding how English is constructed and communicating that to others can be extremely difficult.

TEFL courses can help you to understand the fundamentals of written and spoken English, how speech is constructed and the components of vocabulary.

They can also provide information to help you gain a work placement after graduation and pursue your career. Some can even offer practical support in getting a placement after a job.

Getting information

Your choice of course will depend on what you want to achieve. To take your career further, you also need to know as much as possible about the TEFL sector, what the opportunities are and how you can build your career as a teacher.

The WTEFLAC’s first task was to give you enough information to demonstrate that the TEFL provider you’re looking at is legitimate, reputable, and high quality.

Beyond that, it also acted as an information resource providing people with information about the TEFL sector and tips about how to build their skills as a teacher. On its blogs and in its guides it provides advice on organizing students and compiling lesson plans as well as the different career options you might want.

As such it was an information hub that provided guidance and verification about providers and also helped people make the best career decisions for themselves possible.
