WTEFLAC Decides to Cease Operations

The World TEFLL Accrediting Commission (WTEFLAC), a private accreditor of TEFL/TESOL courses, has closed its operations.

The organization was originally set up as an accrediting body for TEFL/TESOL courses and course providers to drive up standards in the industry. With demand for overseas teaching opportunities on the rise, the industry became crowded with providers. Inevitably, some are more reliable and offer more valuable qualifications than others. Those wanting to take a course have a right to know if their chosen course is legitimate and run by qualified experienced professionals.

WTEFLAC set out to give customers information on which to base their choices. Working with industry experts they laid down a benchmark for the standards that course providers would have to match.

Customers could browse accredited organisations safe in the knowledge that each one had been thoroughly examined and evaluated by their team to make sure it met their standards and code of practice.

Among the organisations accredited by WTEFLAC were:

Let’s TEFL: A comprehensive 120 hour TEFL course followed by help achieving a work placement. https://www.letstefl.com/

Entrust TEFF: A specialist TEFL course provider aimed at Thailand teaching professionals. It offered a mix of on site and online courses as well as advice about teaching in Thailand. https://entrusttefl.com/

The TEFL Academy: A leading provider of combined Level 5 TEFL qualifications with courses running monthly across the UK. https://www.theteflacademy.com/

CIEE TEFL: Founded in 1947 CIEE provides online courses designed to meet and exceed international standards and prepare students for teaching English around the world. https://www.ciee.org/go-abroad/work/tefl

ACLE: Working with Trinity College London, the British Council, LEND, TESOL, and ACLE publishes teaching material and organise summer and city camps. https://www.acle.it/

In everything the WTEFLAC did, it adhered to a strict code of practice designed to improve transparency and quality among providers. Any provider accredited by WTEFLAC would have to ensure promotional material offered a true representation of the course offered. Admission policies had to be clear and the company had to provide high quality peer to peer training from trained and experienced EFL professionals.

Through their website WTEFLAC sought to raise overall standards by providing a comprehensive information resource. Trainee teachers could access advice and tips about teaching and furthering their career while providers could find out more information on the benefits and procedures for accreditation.

From start to finish, WTEFLAC maintained its commitment to excellence and quality across the TEFL sector. By providing a clear framework for providers and trainees WTEFLAC helped provide customers with more information and raise overall quality within this sector.
